A special visitor

Today we had an unexpected visit from a very small hedgehog. It was found near Badger class in the top playground. We rescued it from the hot sunshine, and after having a tour around all the classes (especially Hedgehog class!), Mrs Smith took it to the vets to be checked over and released somewhere safe. The children were very quiet when meeting it, and intrigued as it was the first time a lot of them had seen a hedgehog in real life. We named it Holly in honour of our school.

World Book Day

On Thursday, all children were invited to dress as their favourite book characters for World Book Day - all staff joined in too - and it was fantastic to see all the different costumes and hearing the children talk about their favourite character.

Sports for champions

On Monday the 11th of February we had a very exciting visit from a professional athlete called Robert Mitchell.

Each class took part in a ‘keep fit circuit’ led by Robert himself and it was lots of fun! They completed activities such as spotty dogs, star jumps, press ups, mountain climbers and the plank which showed the children different ways they could keep fit and healthy.

Robert then led an assembly to the children talking about how to stay fit and healthy and what it takes to become a professional athlete.

The athlete, Robert Mitchell, who won a gold medal in high jump at the Commonwealth Games and is the Welsh record holder for this sport too, is going to be coming into school to support the children in completing different sporting activities and will also be delivering an assembly talking about the learning attitudes he needed to reach the top level of his sport!

We are all very excited to be welcoming this event into our school and all look forward to taking part!

Year 1 daily mile

Year 1 have been particularly enjoying taking part in our daily mile this week as we’ve had such lovely Autumn weather! Hollybrook Infant School is working towards achieving a healthy school award over the next year. As a healthy school we take part in a daily mile to keep fit and healthy. We try our best to do our daily mile four times a week and we enjoy walking, jogging or running in our playground for a mile if we can! It gives us a great chance to get a movement break from all our hard learning and a brain break which helps us focus much better when we go back into our classrooms. It’s great for our minds and bodies!

Year R - Nursery rhymes and dinosaurs

The children have enjoyed learning lots of Nursery Rhymes and exploring the small world dinosaurs. We read a story about a crocodile that escaped from a book so the children decided to build a trap to catch him. They also made posters to help Little Bo Peep find her sheep before the crocodile did! The interest of the crocodile stemmed from the children’s interest and curiosity which sparked some fabulous learning.
